DUI charges are often daunting for people who are charged, especially when the possibility of being convicted is very real. DUI charges that are tied to a fatality up the stakes even more, as a conviction could carry serious consequences. For one Colorado woman recently arrested for a DUI in connection with a fatal accident, fear of conviction may be nearly overwhelming.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours in late November. Authorities responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. While many details about the incident have not been revealed, it was reported that the accident resulted in a fatality. A portion of the highway was shut down for hours while authorities continued to investigate

The woman who is believed to have caused the accident suffered injuries and was treated at a local hospital. After her release, police arrested her and charged her with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide. It is not known if the woman was granted bail and no other information concerning her charges has been reported.

The woman who the authorities believe caused the accident is likely facing severe penalties for the DUI charge alone. When a DUI is accompanied by a vehicular homicide charge, the potential consequences increase exponentially. Luckily for this woman, and all of those who find themselves in similar situations, guilt must be proven in a court of law. In Colorado, as in all states, anyone charged with a crime has the right to defend him or herself against the charges he or she faces. With a strong criminal defense, it is possible that this woman will be found not guilty of the charges she faces.
