Colorado Springs police arrested an 18-year-old driver after an extraordinary chain of events on a recent Saturday morning. In a bizarre crash, six cars and three homes were damaged. Had one person not moved out of one of the residences the previous day, a fatality might have been added to the list of destruction. The youth is now facing DUI and other charges.

According to the police report, the young man’s car went airborne after skidding over a distance of about 300 feet. This was reportedly followed by the car crashing through a concrete wall and a fence before striking numerous parked cars, causing a chain reaction that ultimately damaged six vehicles. The out-of-control car struck one home and then landed inside another house’s living room. The impact caused the shattering of a third house’s windows.

One of the damaged homes was declared structurally unstable, and the occupants were offered accommodations by the Red Cross. The police expressed their surprise at finding no injured individuals after the crash. After identifying the driver, the police learned that there were several arrest warrants outstanding for the young man. A juvenile who reportedly fled the scene has not been identified yet.

The penalties for DUI convictions in Colorado are severe and can include jail time, fines, driver’s license suspension and more. However, none of these penalties can be leveled until the prosecution has proved guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. For guidance throughout legal proceedings, and for the protection of an accused person’s legal rights, the services of an experienced DUI defense attorney may be invaluable. After assessing all the relevant information, including evidence held by the prosecution, a defense strategy can be devised that will serve the client’s best interests.
