Many crimes involving drugs and alcohol stem from untreated substance use disorder. If you struggle with addiction and face criminal charges for driving under the influence or a related offense, you could qualify for Weld County adult treatment court.

Review the eligibility criteria and requirements for this court-supervised treatment program

Who can enroll?

If you committed a new offense or probation violation related to substance use, you may qualify for adult treatment court if you live in Weld County and have a medical diagnosis of substance use disorder. You cannot enroll in the treatment program if your offense involves drug trafficking, arson, domestic violence, residential burglary, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sex crimes, or serious bodily injury or wrongful death (vehicular homicide, for example).

What should I expect?

During the drug court program, you must agree to:

  • Attend regular therapy sessions, daily support groups and court appearances
  • Undergo random alcohol and drug screenings
  • Complete a substance use treatment program as recommended by your health care provider, including mental health screening and treatment as indicated
  • Follow program rules including the required curfew
  • Maintain employment, education or volunteer work

The program requirements gradually decrease during the five-phase program, which takes a minimum of 16 months to complete. Nearly 100 individuals graduated from the Weld County adult treatment court program during its first 10 years in operation. Upon graduation, successful program participants can qualify for reduction or dismissal of DUI and other charges, including avoidance of jail time in many cases. If you have an interest in this program, you can request a referral through the court or your attorney.
