Man arrested for multiple drug offenses and traffic violations

After a traffic stop, a 25-year-old man found himself in jail. The Colorado man was charged with multiple drug offenses and other charges. He's being held on a $75,000 bond.

According to reports, an officer noticed that the man's brake lights were not working on his vehicle. The officer pulled him over and, at the traffic stop, it was reportedly discovered that there was a bag of methamphetamine and bags of marijuana inside of the vehicle. The officer also discovered a digital scale, a smoking pipe and a marijuana grinder. A passenger who was in the vehicle was searched and she was found with bags of meth.

During the traffic stop, authorities also discovered that the man's license was revoked. He was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with driving on a suspended license and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. He is expected to appear in court in the recent weeks.

State prosecutors tend to pursue allegations of drug offenses to the fullest extent of the law to secure convictions. Certain drug charges can result in defendants spending a number of years in prison. It's important for Colorado blog readers to keep in mind that not every defendant who is arrested is automatically guilty, and they have legal rights throughout the entire criminal procedure. The defendant may also challenge the admissibility of evidence based on the officer's actions such as probable cause and if the vehicle search was legal. A defendant who is charged with any type of drug offense is considered innocent until the state has met its burden of proof and the jury has found him or her guilty.
