Man with murder conviction charged with sex assault in Colorado

When you have a criminal conviction in your past, people tend to automatically assume the worst of you when your name comes up in connection with something negative. Even when someone is trying to get his or her life back on track, one accusation can easily turn into a horrible experience. For example, a man who spent 37 years in prison after a controversial double murder trial now stands accused of sexual assault in Colorado.

In 1975 the man was convicted of two murders that occurred in 1962. He was given a life sentence, but throughout his time in prison, he maintained his innocence. After receiving much legal support, he was eventually released from prison in November 2012 after pleading no-contest to second-degree murder. The 78-year-old lived with friends and family after his release.

It is alleged that in April 2013 the man began sexually assaulting a child in Colorado. He was arrested in Denver and has been in jail since October 2013 on four counts of sexual assault, and his bond remains $200,000.

The man's ex-wife reportedly brought his most recent arrest to the attention of the local media in Arizona, where he was convicted of murder. In seeking his release from prison, the man's attorneys suggested that the ex-wife played a role in the 1962 murders.

Like anyone accused of a crime, the man has the right to defend against the charges leveled against him. Readers in Colorado may want to follow up on this case as it proceeds through the criminal justice system.
